Climate Teams: A New Model for Investor-Host Climate Cooperation

Book

10 July 2005

Abstract

Presents the Climate Teams model as enabling host and investor countries to cooperate to genuinely reduce global emissions and raise ambition in both countries' NDCs. Key points: a large-scale climate team agreement can demonstrate additionality and avoid leakage; it gives host countries confidence in receiving a return on investment in emissions reductions.

Summary

Introduces the 'Climate Teams' model: a new way for countries to cooperate on climate action, where an investing country helps a host country reduce emissions more ambitiously than it could alone. Both countries benefit: the host country gets investment and clean technology, while the investor country gets emissions credits toward its own climate targets.
