Potential Greenhouse Gas Reductions Beyond Chile’s Nationally Determined Contribution to 2030: Preliminary Modelling Results

Report

1 August 2022

Abstract

Uses energy system modelling to estimate how many additional emissions cuts Chile could achieve beyond its existing climate pledges by 2030, and what it would cost — finding that approximately 62 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in extra reductions are available. 70% of this could be obtained at a marginal cost of less than US$50/tCO2e, with estimated capital cost of approximately US$2.8 billion.
