Abstract

This study evaluates a potential transition of India's power sector to 100% wind and solar energy sources using the IDEEA (Indian Zero Carbon Energy Pathways) model across 32 regions and 174 locations. The study assessed 153 scenarios with varying generating and balancing technologies, confirming technical feasibility and long-term reliability of a 100% renewable system for India.

Summary

Uses detailed computer modelling across 32 Indian regions to show that India could realistically power its entire electricity grid with wind and solar by 2050. The study maps out where in the country these resources are most abundant and how they complement each other across seasons.
